Former Brilliance BMW Senior Vice President Daniel Kirchert may eventually be joining Mercedes-Benz China, auto.sina.com.cn reported today, citing various reports in the media. Dr. Kirchert announced his resignation following Christoph Stark's leaving BMW China.
According to various reports appearing across the media, Mercedes-Benz China has an open senior position in Beijing Benz. There is strong speculation that Dr. Kirchert (pictured) is being considered for the role. He has been noted for his work experience and Chinese language ability.
Dr. Kirchert, who majored in Chinese at Nanjing University, joined BMW in 2002. He worked as project manager for BMW AG's Asia-Pacific and Africa department in 2003. It was at this time that Dr. Kirchert started working in the Chinese market. In April 2007 he joined Brilliance BMW after working for the German manufacturer in Beijing. Dr. Kirchert has been a key figure in the manufacturer's attempts to localize its products for the Chinese market. During his tenure, BMW's sales network in the country increased from around 60 dealerships to nearly 400 this year.
